Gardening and tools for Children

Including children in gardening for a future generation of garden lovers. From an early age, they develop a true interest gardening. Children gathering flowers for moms, dads,grandparents and other special people in their lives. Instill the ecology for earth by sharing the magic of nature in the young people of today. Start by letting them have their own garden tools and have a designated place to store them.

Take your child shopping to find their own set of out and buy them some children’s gardening tools. Find their favorites and maybe a couple more. Many colorful tools are available such as buckets, rakes, hoes, wheelbarrows, and shovels. Other fun items are small stool, gloves, plant markers, figurines, a kneeling pad, etc. Be sure to explain how to use all the tools, markers, and shovels in an ergonomic fashion to avoid little aches and strains.

Start with simple projects, such as digging up dandelions with that special tool of theirs. You can give advice on what to plant then let them choose. Have them plant some flower seeds and give the seeds a good drink of water. In a few days you can point out the new sprouts and how exciting they are. Explain what it takes to get the seeds to sprout and how to care for the new plants. This is the part they actually use those tools.

Find a good location that is easily accessible for them. Try changing that unused sandbox into a mini garden for children. Add some good soil mixture and let them plan out the arrangement of planting. Add some markers so they can track the seedling growth. How exciting it is to harvest the crop they planted!

Help them personalize their special garden with decorations and let them help pick them out.
Hand crafted items are great such as those cool rock collections they hand picked. Maybe decorate those larger rocks with flowers or names painted. Let them be creative and add their own ideas.

When gardening with children be patient,encouraging them and being very positive while teaching them about nature. Keep in mind how beneficial this whole experience is to your child. They will beam with pride when picking their first bouquet or bright red tomato!

Cultivators
Garden cultivators are great for flowerbeds and vegetable plots. This tool is for breaking up hard compacted soil. Cultivators are very useful when weeding gardens and keeping weeds under control.

Pruners

The shovel breaks up clay soils and with trees that has established roots. You will use the shovel in many ways. Transplanting, planting, scooping dirt, etc.

Spading fork
A spading fork is another great tool that you could use in your collection as it’s great for splitting perennials and grasses alike. All of these tools can lighten your gardening burden and allow you to have the beautiful garden that you desire.

Lawnmowers
Lawn mowers are a must as they give your landscape that finished look for pure curb appeal. Also, mowers are wonderful for mulching and gathering leaves in the fall. There are some who prefer push lawnmowers for smaller lots or for the extra physical effort and conserving our gas resources. Larger lawns are probably going to be maintained with a riding mower to save time.

Shredders
Garden shredders are great for gardening. This is a great way to add to your compost pile and recycle the materials back into your garden. Great for nature enthusiast.

These essential tools are aides for the manual labor and make finishing the job much easier. Store them in a dry location to prevent damage. Take good care of the tools and they will last for many years. Use these tools safely and enjoy with your garden projects!

Garden Tools are Key in Getting the Task Done

Garden tools are very helpful to complete the work done! The right tool for the right job makes the work handier to be finished.  The stories of garden tools and how our ancestors used gardening tools, which are a gardener’s best friend, is always a fun to hear. The items can do much more than just help a gardener tend his garden.   The gardener will need an assortment of tools to tend to things.

Any tool that can be implemented in the application of any kind of gardening (indoor, outdoor, vegetable or flower) such as a shovel, hoe, pruner, and trowel even something larger such as a skid loader or a tiller for larger areas. Garden tools are as key for a gardener as pliers,screwdrivers and saw are to a carpenter.

Garden tools are commonly exposed to the elements such as soil, heat, and moisture.  After use, make sure to rinse and dry them to prevent corrosion before placing back into your storage shed or garage, so keep a clean cloth by you tools as a little care goes a long way.

Remember to either cover your remaining crops or pick your crops before fall’s frost comes in the late fall.  Taking the frost warnings seriously and protect the last of your crops. If the nights start dipping down to 4o degrees, it is time for concern.   Keep a watchful eye on the temperature gauge.

Gardening books,newspapers and books will give you great tips and ideas about things you can do to care for your gardening tools. Things such as  placing your long handled tools into a capped plastic pipe filled with linseed oil.   Try adding about a quart of oil into a bucket of sand then place your digging tools head down into the oiled sand.

Pick your tools carefully, with quality in mind, to have them for many years of good use.  Care for them well and they will serve you well!
